Congratulations go to everyone involved in the Broxtowe Learning Disability Collaborative, which won the Health Inequalities Award at this week’s NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Health and Care Awards.

Clare Watson, Clinical Lead for Health Inequalities in Nottingham West PCN said: “We couldn’t be more proud of what has been achieved by Broxtowe Learning Disability Collaborative, tonight’s award is both the icing on the cake and a stake in the ground to propel us on to achieve equity in access, experience and outcomes for everyone!

“In Nottingham West we have brought patients with learning disabilities, their parents and carers together with local partners from the health, care, leisure, and voluntary sector through a series of roadshow events.

“Over the last year, we reached hundreds of people through six roadshows that were held in conjunction with Liberty Leisure Limited (LLeisure) and funded by a grant of £2,000 from Health Innovation East Midlands. The aim was to engage with people who have learning disabilities to see how local services could better support them to live more healthily.

“Jill Carter, CEO of PulpFriction, one of the partners who worked with the PCN and Albert and Angela were with us on the awards night from their team. Albert had helped out with leading some Nordic walking demonstrations and some community singing sessions at the roadshows.”

Jill added: “We loved working alongside you and supporting your project. The Boccia group in Kimberley last week came about as a direct result of the Roadshows, it was led by Learning Disabled people which I think the participants really appreciated. Looking forward to getting the Nordic Walking Group up and running soon!”
